Pagination Helper

Monday August 8th 2016

I have written a short PHP Script to help populate a Bootstrap pagination navbar.

Writing this script brought back memories. Specifically the joy of programming logic vs the joy of HTML and CSS.

In the early 1980's I took a course in BASIC at a Community College. I enjoyed it. The DEC PDP-11 was in it's own small room. Next I took a course in COBOL and one in RPG. Even though I felt I grasped BASIC, I couldn't get a grip on COBOL. RPG had zero appeal. Those courses ended my formal computer programming education.

The computer fog lifted when 5 years later I had my first PC. Working with my own computer was a much better education.

I soon bought Microsoft QuickC a compiler for the C programming language. I wrote a few small system utilities. If I recall, the most ambitious program was a simple page containing a menu that could be edited by the user. In 1992 this was a challenge.

That was at the end of the MS-DOS era and I never made the leap to C++.

This little script is the most programming I've done in 20 years.
